Management Tips from Star Wars

Darth Vader has his own way on management which we can learn a thing or two … as listed down by lifehack.org.

To summarize, to maintain control and order in the Empire, Lord Vader uses the following:

  • Use Fear
  • Don’t Tolerate Dissent
  • Punish Incompetence
  • Deal Exclusively On Your Terms
  • Use Loyalty Judiciously
  • Always Look for Talent
  • Know that Power is what matters
  • Get Out There and Lead
  • An elaborate, far-reaching plan, which relies on people reacting exactly how you plan for them to react, is always better than a simple plan. (kind like playing chess)

Well ………..

Being a self confident, egoistic, supressive and  intolerant leader are some qualities that we sometimes need to succeed in this ruthless world. But, being kind, patience, rewarding has a place as well in order to manage well. The key is to find the perfect balance. Being bad can get you so far. Hollywood (and don’t forget history) prove that the the bad guys never wins. Being Mr. Good or Mr. Yessir might not get us anywhere.

Master Yoda also has a few tips.

  • “Try not. Do or do not, there is no try.”
  • “Once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny, consume you it will.”
  • “Grave danger you are in. Impatient you are.”
  • “Size matters not. Look at me. Judge me by my size, do you?”

What would you make of those quotes.

Put your heart to what ever you do, always make your goals clear and never stray. Be patient and thing before acting on something because a wrong move could put you in trouble. And, never under estimate other peoples’ abilities. At least that’s how I understand Master Yoda.

How says you don’t learn anything at the movies …..
